In Medieval times there were many small settlements, mainly engaged in agriculture, scattered across the countryside. These small farmsteads were very dependent upon the weather for crop yields with a poor harvest often leading to starvation.

This book covers the small settlements that existed in Hertfordshire around the Tring area in Medieval times, showing their location, size and what evidence there is today of their existence. Some of these settlements still exist today but many have disappeared.
