1. Do you require assistance to find the information you are looking for?

If so please proceed with this order for a search, providing information on your requirements as prompted. Please prioritise your requirements and we will answer as many questions as possible in the time you have purchased.

2. Do you require a Quote

Request staff to assess a documents suitability for copying, and to supply a quote for providing copies where possible. You must have a reference number for the document.

Exceptions:-

• Baptism, marriages and burials where the parish and exact date is known: use copying service instead
• Journal and newspaper articles where the title and publication date are known: use copying service instead
• Wills held at Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies: order through Hertfordshire Names Online
• Tithe Maps: You can order a complete tithe map on CD, with the awards included, from our Map Shop. We do not supply copies of extracts.

3. Examples:

• Date of great grandmother’s baptism, c1890 in St Albans
• Who was living at 1 Anywhere Street, Hertford, between 1955-1965?
• How much would it cost to supply copies of the following document, D/EX 227 – sale particulars of Presdales Ware, 1879

4. Charges and delivery

You will be charged according to the time taken for the search. Please note that the search fee does not include the provision of copies. If we identify any relevant documents that can be copied, we will provide a quote with our report.

Although our sources are wide-ranging, the answers to questions aren’t always in the records. If our search doesn’t yield a positive response, we will tell you and try to suggest alternative sources. We will always try to advise you of the next step, if it seems that you could pursue an investigation further.

Search time is charged in units of 30 minutes to a maximum of two hours. The search report will be sent to your e-mail address.

It is not always possible to find or verify information due to the nature of the records we hold at Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies. Every effort will be made to provide accurate and complete information and advice but Hertfordshire County Council can not be held responsible for errors or omissions.

The search report will be dispatched by email within 10 working days of receipt of your order.
