An account of the Hertfordshire Volunteer Regiment and other unites of the Volunteers training Corps and the Volunteer Force raised in Hertfordshire 1914-1921. The Volunteer training Corps and the Volunteer Force were the First World War equivalent of the Home Guard.
This book records the raising and subsequent development of the infantry, motor transport and medical units raised in Hertford against the ‘national background’.
It is the only book on this subject to be published since the 1930s and includes appendices on the legislation and War Office instructions affecting the forces, lists of officers, a roll of honour and the names of those commended for their services, together with a comprehensive annotated bibliography and full details of weapons, equipment, uniform and badges.
