A short but comprehensive history of the town from ancient to modern times, continuously in print since 1969, last revised and reprinted 2001.

This short history of Bishop’s Stortford has been compiled by a group of members of the Local History Society to fill a need which was felt to exist for a short, up-to-date handbook, to serve as an introduction to the story of our town.  This history does not claim to be definitive, nor is it based on original research.  The Society hopes later to publish some works of more detailed research upon various aspects of the town’s history that are only touched on in this book.
