Description
Without the activity of HBPT and BEAMS, the landscape of Hertfordshire would be greatly diminished. For sixty years a group of dedicated people, many of them volunteers, have worked to save mostly small, historic buildings from dereliction and demolition.
To celebrate their anniversary, this book describes many of the achievements of Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust over the past 60 years and BEAMS over 30 years and details the difficult decisions made in taking on and reconstructing derelict and unwanted buildings. The trust is a registered charity working within limited resources so there is good reason for the pride in the record and for celebration. It also shows the greater role the Trust took on working with or alongside Hertfordshire County Council and Local Authorities and the respect gained within the trade. Buildings rescued have included cottages, a windmill, barns, outbuildings, stables, a dovecote, a working forge and ruined churches.
This book describes in words and images, both colour and black and white, the work of the Trust from early days, the people involved, the projects taken on and the buildings rescued
