- Description: Watford Union comprised the following parishes: Abbots Langley, Aldenham, Bushey, Oxhey (created in 1906), Rickmansworth, Sarratt, Watford. The Poor Law Institution in Vicarage Road was called 'Shrodells' from 1930 and later became the Watford General Hospital. The children's home at Ashby Road became the Hertfordshire County Council's 'Merryfield' Children's Home (see HSS8/16). When the functions of the Boards of Guardians passed to the County Council in 1930, the Watford Board of Guardians was succeeded by the Watford Guardians Committee (see HCC37G and HSS 3/8).
Items BG/WAT/59-70 were formerly unnumbered; BG/WAT/67 -70 were part of Off Acc 369 (Inland Revenue Valuation Office).
